April 2014 Favourites

April 2014 Favs

Hi Everyone,

It’s favourites time again! This month I don’t have a ton favourites to share with you, especially when compared to my March favourites, which had so many I had to split it into two posts. This month, I found myself still really loving a lot of the products I featured last month (March Skincare Favs & Makeup Favs).

There were definitely however some new favourites this month that I’ve been loving and using constantly this month.

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette - This palette is just the best. It’s got great pigmentation, the shade selection is gorgeous and it smells like chocolate. You can read my detailed blog post about it here.

Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara – I picked this up quite a while ago after reading some great reviews on Sephora, but only got around to using it this month. It’s a traditional volumizing mascara with a fibre brush, which adds volume, length and can be built up from natural to dramatic. It’s a great mascara, but the main reason it’s in my favourites is because despite not being labelled as a waterproof mascara, it performs like one. It doesn’t give me racoon eyes or leave black smudges under my eyes, and that’s saying a lot considering the only other mascara that I’ve found that can do that is the L’Oreal Telescopic Waterproof mascara.

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Crayon – I had read and heard so much about these glosses from the UK, and was super jazzed to get my hands on them when they came to Canada, and have been absolutely loving them. My favourite of the three is a berry pink shade called Plum Jam, it’s become my go-to lip colour. You can read a detailed blog post and see swatches here.

MAC Mineralized Skin Finish in Medium – This is a rediscovery from my stash. I’ve been wearing a lot of light coverage bases recently (which I’ve been loving), but was looking for a powder to add a little bit more coverage when needed. This is the perfect powder to do that. I find that it gives just a little bit of coverage, while also setting my makeup. As we get into warmer weather, I see myself getting a lot use of out of this.

Indeed Labs Exfoliator – This powder exfoliator has been a staple in my skin care routine this month. You can add it to your cleanser for a gentle scrub or mix it with water for a deeper exfoliation. You can read my post on it here.

Caudalie SOS Thirst Quenching Serum – This serum has made my dehydrated skin so happy. It’s almost water like texture absorbs into my skin super quick, and leaves it soft and hydrated. Since I started using this, I’ve actually found that I can use a lighter moisturizer. I purchased this on the recommendation of Sunny who writes at Mostly Sunny, if you haven’t read her blog check it out, she’s amazing.

Are any of these products favourites of yours?

Glowing Skin

Glowing Skin

Hi Everyone,

It’s finally starting to feel like spring here in Toronto! Even if it’s still a little chilly out, the sun is shining and it doesn’t get dark at 5pm. For me, it means it’s time for (amongst other things) to up the glow/highlight on my skin. Depending on the day/occasion I tend to vary which products I use to achieve glowing skin. So thought I would share with you my top products for glowing skin.

Estee Lauder Brush on Glow BB Highlighter in Soft Pink – This highlighter pen (a la Touche Eclat) was released alongside the All Day Glow BB Creme (you can read my post on the BB Creme here). It’s great for subtle highlighting, for a everyday glow without being over the top. I find myself using this on a daily basis for highlighting.

Dior Glow Maximizer – When I heard that Dior was releasing this “glow boosting primer” I knew I had to try it. I’m a huge fan of the Dior BB Creme, and thought this would be a great product to go with it. It’s a primer that adds a serious glow to the skin. It’s a great primer, but I tend to use it more as liquid highlighter and blend it in with my base. Because it’s a primer, once it’s on it doesn’t move and gives me a serious glow all day.

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm - This is probably the product that gives the most natural looking glow, it doesn’t have any shimmer or glitter in it. It just brightens up the skin, and gives you a glow. I don’t know how it does it, but if I’ve had a late night/early morning, it’s the first product I turn to.

MAC Mineralized Skin Finish in Soft & Gentle – I was definitely late to the Soft & Gentle bandwagon, I had swatched it when it first came out and wasn’t super impressed. Recently, I was in MAC picking up a couple things and swatched it again, and was absolutely blown away. This is a serious glowy highlighter. I tend to reserve this for evening/event makeup, as I find it difficult to make it subtle enough for office wear. It gives my skin such a glow, but it’s not glittery or incredibly noticeable. It’s like you’re lit from within.

Revlon Photoready Skin Lights in Bare Study – I love this illuminator! Mixed with whatever base I’m wearing, it just gives my skin a subtle glow, while still being office appropriate. I use it every single day I wear makeup. This may actually be one of the first non foundation/concealer products in which I use it all up. I’ve mixed it with everything from the Dior BB Creme to L’Oreal True Match and everything in between. If you’re looking to add some glow to your skin, start here, they’re always on sale somewhere and just amazing.

Soap & Glory Glow All Out – This pink toned highlighter was my go to highlighting powder before Soft & Gentle joined my collection. I still use it when I want a more pink versus neutral toned highlight, plus the price can’t be beat! I apologize in advance to my North American readers as this is currently only available in the UK, but if you can get your hands on it, I would definitely suggest giving it a try.

What products do you like to use to get that glowing skin look?
