2014 Makeup Favourites

2014 Beauty Favourites

It’s time for my 2014 Makeup Favourites here on Meg’s Makeup Bag. I know everyone says it, but I cannot believe that 2014 is over, it feels like it’s gone by so quickly! I really enjoyed going through my products to select my favourites, because it was a mini year in review for me. Each product brought back memories of places I wore it, or posts I wrote about it. If you’re a regular on my blog, none of these favourites will surprise you. They’ve all been mentioned on the blog before, and for good reason, they’re all products I absolutely love. There’s a mix of high and low-end products, with Charlotte Tilbury representing the majority of the high-end products (they’re just so good!)

The prevailing trend you’ll notice with all these products is that they are products that are great quality, easy to use and long wearing. I love makeup, and I definitely love playing around with makeup, however on a day to day basis, I don’t have time to play around, I need products that will work exactly as they are suppose to and make applying them easy. So without further ado, here in no particular order, are my 2014 Makeup Favourites.

I have a lot of eyeshadow palettes, they’re one of my favourite makeup products to buy, I love how one product offers so many possibilities. This year I’ve picked up a bunch of amazing palettes, including the Lorac Pro and Pro 2 palette. My favourite however is definitely The Two Faced Chocolate Bar Paletteand not just because it smells like chocolate! I love the rich shade selection and the great mix of shimmers and mattes. I think my favourite part is that while it’s definitely a neutrals palette, it has some shades with amazing pops of colour. I’m such a huge fan that I ordered the Semi-Sweet Palette the moment it came out (there’s a review coming later this week). You can read my review of the Two Faced Chocolate Bar Palette for more details and swatches.

My favourite high-end brand of 2014 was definitely Charlotte Tilbury, since the brand launched in the US this past September I’ve been seriously hooked. I can honestly say I haven’t been disappointed by a single product I’ve bought. It was hard to narrow down, but of all the products my favourites are definitely the Filmstar Bronze & Glow, the Cheek to Chic Blush in First Love and the Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder. The types of products are not unique, there are tons of contour kits, blushes and pressed powders on the market. What makes the products unique are the formulations. They make using the products effortless, the Filmstar Bronze & Glow makes contouring a dream while the Cheek to Chic Blush gives a gorgeous glow and the Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder really does make your skin look airbrushed.  You can read more of my ravings about Charlotte Tilbury here.

2014 was the year I finally embraced the red lip and the Revlon Colour Stay Moisture Stain in New York Scene was definitely abig part of that. It’s a gloss that fades into a stain and makes wearing a red lip easy and effortless. Indeed, all of the Colour Stay Moisture Stains are amazing! They make wearing a bold lip easy, and I love how by fading into a stain I don’t have to reapply. The MAC Lip Pencil in Half Red was also a favourite. It’s a lovely wine coloured red, which can be worn alone with some gloss, or used with a gloss or a lipstick for a full on look. Before picking up Half Red, I didn’t really see the point of lip pencils. Since purchasing it, I’ve become a convert to lip pencils, I love the definition they give to my lips. My other lip favourite is the Revlon Just Bitten Balm Stain in Honey, which earns the title of my favourite ‘my lips but better’ lip colour of 2014. It has lived in my purse for most of 2014, so much so that labelling has completely worn off. I love that how low maintenance it is, plus the minty smell. It’s definitely my perfect ‘my lips but better colour’.

2014 Favs - Revlon

My favourite primer and foundation this year are both drugstore products, that’s not for lack of trying high-end brands! For foundation, the Bourjois 1 2 3 Perfect Foundation was an easy pick as my favourite. It has amazing coverage that can be sheered out for a light ‘no makeup look’ or build up for a more medium to high coverage, all without looking cakey and while wearing beautifully throughout the day. Paired with the Almay Smart Shade Primerit’s a combo that I haven’t been able to top. I’m almost finished my second bottle of the Almay primer, which says a lot because I rarely finish makeup products. This primer evens out my skin tone, extends the wear of my foundation and keeps any oil at bay, without any silicone.

2014 Favs - Base

I seriously love cream eyeshadow products, they’re my go-to on a daily basis because they’re so quick and easy to apply. Needless to say, I have tried tons of cream eyeshadows and my favourites by far this year are Maybelline Colour Tattoos. There are so many great textures and shade options available, and the formula is super creamy and doesn’t budge, even on my super oily eyelids. My go-to is definitely Bad to the Bronze, it’s the perfect bronzey brown that takes seconds to apply, but makes it look like I put effort into my eye makeup. The other Maybelline product in my favourites is their Brow Drama Mascara, which makes embracing a bold brow easy.

October Favourites

October 2014 Favourites

It’s once again Favourites time here on the blog.   This month has been incredibly busy at work, so I didn’t have as much of an opportunity to blog as I would like. However, I still managed to gather a nice selection of October Favourites to share with you!

Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic Blush in First Love – I went slightly Charlotte Tilbury crazy recently, when her products launched on beautylish.com. My favourite products are the Filmstart Bronze & Glow (post) and this absolutely gorgeous blush. It gives the skin a subtle nude flush, with a slight bit of shimmer, it reminds me of the Hourglass blushes. This blush is designed to first swirl your brush around the outside shade and apply to your skin, and then put a pop of the inside colour on the apples of your cheeks. I tend to mix them together and use it all over.
Sephora Long Lasting Eye Kohl in Infinite Beige- This nude shade has become my go to colour for lining my waterline. It lasts forever without budging, and is just firm enough that it doesn’t end up sticking in my eyelashes, but soft enough that it’s easy to apply.
Revlon Colourstay Moisture Stain in Parisian Passion – This gorgeous wine shade has been my go to lip colour this month. Now that fall is here, I’m really loving the bolder lip and this is the perfect idiot proof bold lip product. It starts out as a gloss, and as the gloss wears off, it leaves a gorgeous stain. It’s perfect for a dark lip, because it doesn’t leave your lips looking awful and patchy as it wears off. Plus I find it much easier to wear than a bold lipstick.
L’Occitane Hand Cream – I don’t often use hand cream in the summer, but as the weather gets colder it’s a must have. The L’Occitane hand cream is by far my favourite, and one of those products that I will forever repurchase. It’s so moisturizing, but also quickly absorbs into the skin and doesn’t leave your hands feeling sticky.  I carry the small size one with me everywhere, and the larger size has a permenant home on my desk.
Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder – I picked this powder up over the summer, however did not end up using it immediately. Recently, I needed a new powder, and pulled this one out. I’m in love. This sets my foundation in place, all day and keeps my t-zone from getting shiny, and it does all of this without going patchy or drying out my skin. It’s a great powder, even compared against higher end ones I’ve tried.
IT Cosmetics Tightline Waterproof Mascara – This is one of those weird products that I just had to try. It uses a tiny mascara brush, which is designed to darken the base of your lashes, as if you had tightlined your eyes. I love the look it gives, and especially love how it doesn’t budge and give me raccoon eyes like tightlining with a pencil would.
MAC Cosmetics Lip Liner in Half Red – I’ve been venturing into darker lip colours recently, and have found that my go-to nude lip pencil isn’t cutting it. This is a wine/berry coloured lip liner that works great with the dark tones that I’ve been wearing. I actually like the shade of the liner, so much on it’s own that I sometimes use it to fill in my lips, and cover it with a balm.
So there you have it, my favourite products for October!
