New at the Drugstore

New at the Drugstore

With the start of a New Year comes a slew of new releases at the drugstore. I did a little hauling of the products that appealed the most to me (mostly base) and thought I would share it with you what’s new at the drugstore.

L’Oreal Infallible Pro Spray Set – As with many popular products, drugstore brands are getting in on makeup setting sprays. I use a makeup setting spray every time I wear makeup, so I picked this up to see how it compared to my favourite Urban Decay setting spray. I have high hopes because Urban Decay is owned by L’Oreal.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation – I can’t resist trying a new foundation, especially one that claims 25 hour wear. Now while I doubt that it actually has 25 hour wear, I’ve read a ton of good reviews from the UK, so I wanted to try it out.

Maybelline Master Prime Primer – This new primer by Maybelline claims to blur and illuminate. I need illumination and imperfection blurring, so in to the basket it went.

L’Oreal Brow Stylist Plumper – This looks like a drugstore dupe for the Benefit Gimme Brow, the brush is identical in shape. So I’m going to put it to the test and will report back.

CoLab Dry Shampoo – While I didn’t technically buy this at the drugstore, I couldn’t resist including it because I was so excited to find in here in Canada. This is a new dry shampoo by Ruth from A Model Recommends, which tons of UK Beauty Bloggers have been raving about. I found a three pack of mini dry shampoos from her line at Winners, so if you’re interesting in trying it, I would suggest Winners is the place to start.

So there you have it! New

December Makeup Bag

December Makeup Bag

The inspiration for contents of my December Makeup Bag is the gorgeous red of the L’Oreal Colour Riche Collection Exclusive Lipstick in JLO’s Red. As it gets colder, I find myself progressing from bright fun shades, through rich plumy tones and now into the reds. However, as I’m still a bright lip (especially red) newbie, I like to keep the rest of my makeup relatively low key and let the lips pop.

For my skin, winter is the worst, it makes my skin look grey and blah. So I always amp up the radiance factor in my makeup products to compensate. The Face Atelier Ultra Sheer in Champage, is a beautiful pink toned illuminator/highlighter. I’ve been mixing a bit with my foundation to give my skin some glow and light, plus I usually end up using a bit around my face as a highlight. To set my makeup, I’m loving the Charlotte Tillbury (I know you’re all shocked!) Air Brush Flawless Finish Powder in 01. This powder is just amazing, it’s like airbrushing in a compact, it’s as if all the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders were combined into one.

For my eyes, I’m loving a very simple, again glowy look. For this, I love the Maybelline Colour Tattoo Cream Shadow in Beige-ing Beauty, as I mentioned in my November Favourites post, I’m having a bit of a rediscovered love affair with these cream shadows. This shade is perfect, because it adds a slight hint of colour, but mostly glow and sparkle. With this shadow, I’ve been doing a bit of a smokey eye with the Nudestix Magnetic Eye Colour in Night. It’s a pure black chubby eyeshadow stick, which makes a smokey eye look idiot proof! Plus this shadow does not budge, at all! For mascara, I recently got this Fairydrops Scandal Queen Mascara from Amazon, and it’s become an instant favourite. It gives such fluttery lashes, and it does not budge, which for my eyes is quite a feat.

Finally, the red lips. So I’ve got two options for a red lip, the L’Oreal Colour Riche Collection Exclusive in JLO’s Red, which inspired this whole look and the Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in New York Scene. The L’Oreal lipstick is a true red lipstick, it’s a blue red, which I find works better with my skin tone. This has what I would describe as a satin finish, not overly glossy but definitely not matte. I’ve talked about the Colorstay Moisture Stains before, they’re a great way to wear a dark lip that is a little more forgiving than a lipstick. This starts as a opaque gloss and fades into stain, so it’s low maintenance (which I of course love!). New York Scene is a more pinky red, but I find myself wearing this more, because it is so much more forgiving/easy to wear.

So there you have it, the products that are in my December Makeup Bag.

Thanks for stopping by!
