My Holy Grail Base – Diorskin Nude BB Creme

Dior BB Cream

After writing my last post about the BB/CC cremes that I’m currently testing, I thought it was time to share my holy grail base, the DiorSkin Nude BB Creme. This is the product I go to when I need a great base, and don’t want to fuss around.

First off, I have to say that despite being called a BB creme, this has the coverage of a lightweight foundation. It’s like ‘your skin but better plus’. It just gives the most flawless, natural coverage. It covers my redness, evens out my skin tone and gives my skin an airbrushed glow. This is the base that when I’m wearing it, I get the most complements on. So in my book, that makes it awesome :)

I have shade 01 and 02, which covers me from my light winter skin tone to my darker summer skin tone. The shade selection is where you can tell it’s actually a BB Creme, not a foundation. It comes in 6 shades, which for a BB creme is a huge selection. I find that compared to traditional foundations, the shades are very forgiving and blend out to match your skin tone.

This does contain an SPF 10 (which in my option is rather useless), but because the coverage isn’t full, I don’t find that it gives any flashback in pictures. It has a slight floral dior-esque scent, but I don’t find it strong or bothersome at all.

This is definitely at the higher end price wise, in Canada they cost $44, which is in the same range as many of the foundations at Sephora. It’s completely worth the price in my opinion, it just is such a nice base. I actually live near a Shoppers Drug Mart that sells Dior, so I’ve picked both of mine up with my Optimum points

Honestly, I do not have one bad thing to say about this BB creme. Each time I’m trying out a new base, I find myself comparing how it performs to this one. The DiorSkin Nude BB Creme is the bench mark that I hold all other bases too.

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer

Hi Everyone!

One of the biggest issues I’ve been dealing with since my skin has gotten drier is that my under eye area has gotten quite dry. All of a sudden, when I used concealer under my eyes, the skin just sucked it up and left my under eye area looking awful and wrinkly and generally not nice. Thinking it was my under eye cream I tried a ton of eye creams, hoping that if it was more hydrated the concealers would work.

Even after switching up eye creams, I still couldn’t get any of my concealers to work. So I set out on a quest to find an under eye concealer that would disguise my dark circles, and just generally brighten my under eye area. I do not even want to think about how many concealers I’ve bought in the last 6 months, if I read good reviews about it, I tried it. High-end, low-end, I tried a ton. But nothing worked how I wanted it to.

Finally, I decided to try the Pro Longwear Concealer by MAC. It’s been raved about by everyone and their mother in the blog word and on YouTube (which actually made me weary of it), but I went ahead and got it despite my reservations. Needless to say I am very thankful that I did (hence the post about it).

This concealer is honestly amazing. It’s just the best concealer I have tried for my under eye. It doesn’t move all day, and can be applied lightly or built up for more coverage. I have fine lines under my eyes (I say they’re from dehydration, not because I’m 30 :|), and it just sets into them without settling, almost like applying foundation under your eyes. I find that because it’s a liquid, you just get smooth even coverage.

I have the shades NW 15 and NW 20, which work really well as they are pink toned, so they cancel out the blue grey shades under my eyes. I think part of my issue with finding a decent concealer (beyond the awful dry under eyes) was the shade selection. I have fair skin, but found it hard to find something that was light enough to blend in with my skin, but not too light that it actually makes my under eye area look worse.

I tend to wear NW 2o on an everyday basis, as it’s a good match for my skin tone and looks very natural. I will mix in a drop of the NW15 when I want a brighter under eye look, usually when I’m doing a more full face of makeup.

I will use the tiniest, I mean tiniest amount of powder to set this concealer. Right now, I’m loving the Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing powder, which I picked up in a mini size from Sephora. It’s super lightweight, and because I’m using so little, will likely last me quite a while. It’s definitely a fine line between the right amount and too much powder, which sometimes at 6am when I’m putting on my makeup can get dangerous.

I highly highly recommend trying this concealer if you haven’t already. It literally has changed how my under eye looks with concealer, and saved me money because I no longer am buying a different concealer every week to try.
