2014 Skincare Favourites

2014 Skincare Favourites

Welcome to the second part of my 2014 Favourites! In my last post, I shared my 2014 Makeup Favourites (you can catch up on that post here). Today is all about my 2014 Skincare Favourites, which were actually much harder to pick to than my makeup favourites. I’m a skincare junkie and use tons of different products on a regular basis, so narrowing down the ones I considered ‘favourites’ was quite a challenge. The products included in my 2014 Skincare Favourites are all products that I would repurchase in a heartbeat and would be my picks if I had to place a limit on the number of products I owned.

First up is the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel, which is definitely my favourite skin care product of 2014. It’s the most lovely hydrating cleanser which is closer to a balm than a gel cleanser, but works equally well to cleanse the skin in the morning, as it does to remove makeup. It’s actually the only product of this list that I have multiple backups, so that I never have run out. If you want to read a more detailed review, I have a whole post about it here. For removing my heavy duty waterproof, the Bourjois Express Eye Makeup Remover is by far my favourite. A couple seconds over my eye on a cotton pad, and everything comes off. No rubbing, or tugging on my eyes.

Before using my serums and oils, I love to use a toner. The Lush Eau de Roma Water is refreshing, plus it smells like roses. My favourite serum this year is definitely the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair, it makes my skin feel so soft and is hopefully, keeping any new wrinkles at bay! The Clarins Blue Orchid Treatment Oil is far and away my favourite oil of 2014 (and that says a lot!). It really can’t be beat at keeping my skin looking hydrated and glowing. If you want to read more about the Clarins Oil, you can do so here.

My favourite moisturiser of 2014 is probably the most pricey skincare product I own, however it’s worth every penny. I picked up the MV Organics Rose Soothing Protective Moisturiser on a whim from Cult Beauty this fall and am absolutely head over heels in love with it. It’s a lightweight cream, which plumps up my skin and keeps it hydrated all day. Plus, my makeup seems to look so much better when I use this first. Because it’s so pricey, I keep it for when I’m having a bad skin day/it’s minus 30 degrees outside/my skin needs a treat. If you have the chance to pick it up, I highly highly recommend it. Worth every penny!

Finally, for treatments, my top favourites for 2014 were the Aesop Parsley Seed Mask and the Nude Miracle Mask. The Aesop mask gets top marks because it’s a clay mask that deep cleans, without drying out my already dry skin. I find it especially good for getting rid of the blackheads on my nose and chin. You can read my post on it here. The Nude Miracle Mask is an exfoliating and brightening mask that quickly cleanses and perks up my skin. I like this mask because it works so quickly, I can use it in the morning or at night.

So there you have, my 2014 Skincare Favourites.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Travel Skincare – Carryon Edition

Carryon Skincare

Hey Everyone,

I end up doing a lot of overnight and 2 day business trips, which are an insane amount of meeting shoved into just a few days. For these trips, carry on luggage is really the only option. This initially presented a challenge for me, as I am a huge skin care junkie and the thought of all my skincare fitting into a ziplock baggie stressed me out. Through trial and error, I’ve figured out what I actually need and don’t need, and how to fit it all into the dreaded baggie.

Firstly, samples are your friend! I always ask for samples anytime I make a purchase at Sephora, makeup counters, anywhere I know they have samples. Kiehl’s is great for that, because you always get samples with each purchase. At Sephora, I’m always scouting their 100pt perks for products that are travel friendly. I’ve managed to get the total products I bring with me down to 10 items, and could probably get rid of at 1 or 2 if needed.

First off, I always bring a lip balm, in this case it’s The Body Shop Aloe Lip Care. When it comes to a moisturizer, I always bring something super hydrating, that can multitask. I got this First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream as a 100pt perk at Sephora. It’s amazing for travel, I would say it’s my #1 travel essential. I apply this on the plane to keep my skin hydrated during the flight, and then use it both as my moisturizer and eye cream in the morning/evening. It can also be used as a hand and body cream.

My skin hates air travel, I have super dehydrated skin which just gets more dehydrated on a plane. So I always bring a sheet mask with me to use in the evening at the hotel. I love the Indeed Labs Hydraluron Mask because it’s super hydrating, plus I use the leftover serum in the package as my am serum.

I don’t use makeup wipes on a regular basis at home, but they’re great when travelling. I use them to remove my makeup, before washing my face, plus they can double as wet wipes in a pinch. The Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes are great, they easily remove makeup, the wipes are soft and they don’t dry out the skin. The Avene Thermal Spring Water is probably one of the products I could omit (if absolutely necessary), but it’s great to add extra moisture to the skin and to use as a toner in a pinch. I swear by the Kiehl’s Antiperspirant, I love that they have a travel size that fits nicely in to my bag.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair is my go-to evening serum, and this sample size bottle is perfect to bring with me when I travel. I just refill it from my big bottle when it gets low. I use an oil in the evening to hydrate my skin, and this mini size of the Tarte Maracuja Oil that I got as a point perk from Sephora is the perfect travel size.

For face wash and toner, I always pack samples that I can throw out at the hotel before I head home. Both the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser and the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner packets are great for overnight trips, they have enough product to use at least a couple times, but then can be thrown out.

Skincare Packed

All packed up in the dreaded ziploc

Hope you enjoyed this peek into the skincare essentials I bring with me when I travel carryon. If I’m checking luggage, all bets are off!
