August 2014 Favourites

August 2014

August 2014

It’s favourites times again here on Meg’s Makeup Bag. These are the products that I’ve using and loving all month long.

Clarins Lip Balm Crayon in 01 My Pink – This has been my go-to lip colour for the whole summer, I love it so much this is the second monthly favourites it has appeared in (first appeared in July 2014 Favourites). It’s a lovely pink shade, which is super hydrating and smells delicious.

L’Oreal Silky Sheer Sunscreen – This is such a lovely sunscreen, it’s kept my face burn free all summer and leaves a nice velvety finish for applying makeup on top of. This is the regular version, I also have the BB version and also love it.

Andalou Naturals Moroccan Beauty Oil – I picked up this rose oil on a trip to Whole Foods a couple weeks ago, and it has quickly become a staple in my skincare routine. It smells absolutely amazing, and adds much needed moisture to my skin.

Almay Smart Shade Makeup in Light* - This has been my go-to base all month. The shade self adjusts, so I haven’t needed to use a different shade depending on if I have a tan or not.

Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Balms in Robust Rhubarb – I raved about these Clinique Chubby Stick Cheeks in a recent post, and Robust Rhubarb has been my go to shade all month. It’s peachy coral tone brightens up my face and works well with my tan.

Secret Antiperspirant in Romantic Rose - Such a random product to include in a favourites, but it’s the first antiperspirant in a while that I’ve actually enjoyed using. It has a lovely rose scent (seeing a theme?) that doesn’t interfere with my fragrance, and it lasts all day.

Benefit Hoola Bronzer - I got this mini in a Christmas set, but only started using recently when I was going away and needed something small to travel with. It’s a very neutral, almost cool toned bronzer that I use as both a bronzer and for contouring.

L’Oreal Miss Manga Waterproof Mascara – This has been my mascara of choice this month. L’Oreal waterproof mascaras are always amazing, and this one is no different. I wasn’t sure what to make of the flexible brush arm, but it actually makes it easier to get into the inside and outside corner of the lashes.

Sonia Kashuk Eyeshadow Buffing Brush – This is part of the Sonia Kashuk 15th Anniversary Brush Set from Target, and I’m loving it. It’s so soft, and is the perfect shape to buff colour into my eyeshadow crease.

There you have it! My August 2014 Favourites!

Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour

Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour

I’m a sucker for anything in a stick form. There are some days when I manage to do all my makeup with only products in sticks (and I’m rather proud on those days!). So when I read about the release of the Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balms, I had to try them out.

The Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balms are an extension of the hugely popular Chubby Stick line that includes eyeshadows and multiple lip colour formulations. The packaging is quite similar, however they are thicker than the eye and lip versions. They are the same length as the other chubby sticks, which makes them perfect for travel.

They definitely have a balm like texture, however don’t let that fool you into thinking they are not very pigmented. They are very pigmented, and all you need is a couple dots of product to do each cheek. I really like the texture of the Cheek Colour Balms, they apply super smoothly to the skin and blend out beautifully. I apply them by drawing two dots of product on each cheek, and then blend it out with a stippling brush. You can definitely apply and blend with only your fingers, however I personally prefer the stippling brush option.

I was worried that the balm consistency would affect their wear time, but that’s not the case at all. Once they are applied, they set quite nicely and last throughout the day. There is a little bit of fading from the initial application, however the colour seems to almost stain the cheeks, so it really lasts.

Initially, I picked up the shade Robust Rhubard (the middle shade above), because I’m a sucker for coral/peachy cheeks. I was so impressed with the formula, and performance that I went back and picked up two more; Roly Poly Rosey (left) Amp’d Up Apple (right). The swatches below are just one swipe of the chubby stick, that’s how pigmented they are.

My favourite of the three is definitely still Robust Rhubarb, however I like expect to get a lot of wear out of the other two shades as the weather gets cooler. I’m particularly excited about the nudey pink shade of Amp’d Up Apple, I think it will be great for when I want to wear a bold lip.

Overall, I’m absolutely in love with the Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Balms. They give a gorgeous pop of colour, which brightens up the cheeks without looking to garish or clown like.

Have you tried the new Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Balms?
