June 2014 Favourites

June 2014 Favouriters

It’s favourites time again! Favourites posts are a struggle for me because I like and use so many products, I find it hard to narrow it down to just a few. This month’s favourites stood out, because they were products that I loved and kept going back to throughout the month. So let’s get to it.

Urban Decay B6 Vitamin Infused Complexion Prep Spray – I originally ordered a travel size of this spray at the beginning of the month, and quickly used it all up and went back for a full size version. I use this both as a primer and to set my makeup, and does an amazing job. I’ve used some of the other UD setting sprays, but have never been overly impressed. For whatever reason, I find this does a much better job than the others, of setting my makeup and keeping it looking awesome, even when it’s super hot outside.

nspa Radiant Flash Serum – I recently discovered the nspa brand, and their Radiant Flash Serum has quickly become a favourite. It adds such a natural looking glow to the skin, and dries quickly to a lovely satin finish. It’s one of those products that is hard to describe; but since I’ve started using it under my makeup, I’ve had so many people remark on how lovely and bright my skin looks. On days when I don’t wear makeup, I put this on because even though there isn’t any colour, it brightens up my skin and makes me look awake.

Bold Lips (Revlon Colourburst Moisture Stain & Bourjois Rouge Edtions Velvet) – This month, I set out to actually use some of the many lip products I own with my #30daysoflippies on instagram (@megsmakeupbag). It’s been so much fun, and I’ve discovered that I love a bright lip. I’ve always been more of a neutral lip girl, but I quickly discovered that I didn’t have 30 days of neutral lip products and needed to start using the bright ones, and I actually really like it. These two; the Revlon Colourburst Moisture Stain and the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet are definitely my favourite bright lip products. I like the Colourburst Moisture Stain, because it starts off glossy and fades into a lovely stain. It’s super low maintenance and you don’t end up with patchy colour left on your lips. The Rouge Edition Velvets are my first foray into matte liquid lipstick; if you think you don’t like matte liquid lipstick, try these. They wear great, and don’t leave your lips feeling dry.

Rimmel BB Cream Matte – I love this BB Cream. I never thought I would be loving a matte bb cream. Ever. I have normal dehydrated skin, so a matte finish is usually not something I need/go for. I happened to see this on sale and picked it up on whim. First of all, the finish is just insane. On my skin it dries to a velvet finish, but doesn’t make my skin look dry or blah. It’s got great coverage for a BB cream, and blends so nicely into the skin. It covers all the redness on my face, while still looking natural. Definitely try this one!

Sephora Ribbon Hair Ties – I am obsessed with these hair ties. I have thick hair, like really thick hair, so I’ve always used the thick heavy duty elastics because nothing else would hold it. I was out with a friend and wanted but didn’t have an elastic, and she gave me one of these. I was beyond skeptical that this adorable little hair tie could hold up all my hair. I was wrong, 100% wrong. These dainty little hair ties can hold up all my hair without even breaking a sweat. I’m obsessed. I have stopped using any other hair ties, and have stocked up on these. So if you see these and think “I have too much hair for those”, try them anyway, because if they can hold my lions mane worth of hair, they’ll probably hold yours too.

Real Techniques Blush Brush – First off, I do not use this as a blush brush, so ignore the name of the brush. I use this as my bronzer brush and it does a fantastic job. It fluffy enough to nicely distribute the bronzer around my face, but no so huge that I end up with bronzer all over my face. When I want to do a light contour, I will put bronzer on just the tip of the brush, and then push down and use more of the brush to blend it out. For any Canadian readers looking for RT brushes (especially in Ontario where none of the drugstore chains carry the individual brushes..end rant), I’ve noticed that Winners and Marshall have been getting tons of the brushes in recently, so if you’re on the hunt I suggest checking them out.

elf High Definition Undereye Setting Powder – Now that elf has finally made it’s way to Target in Canada, I’ve finally been able to try some of their products. This underye setting powder has been the standout product so far; it’s a very fine powder with what looks like sparkles in it. But don’t let that scare you, the sparkle doesn’t show up on the skin. It sets my concealer, but also brightens my undereye area and makes me look so much more awake.

Hope you enjoyed my June favourites post! What have been some of the products you’ve been loving this month?

Another Empties Post

Empties#2

It’s time for another empties post! For me, empties are a big deal because I usually only use up products that I like. I have a really hard time finishing a product if I don’t like it (though I’m trying to be better and use up my products). If you’re a regular here, you’ll recognize a lot of these products as I’ve likely raved about them in the past. So let’s go ahead and take a peek through my trash :)

GlamGlow Mask (mini size) – Bought this at Sephora, I was really intrigued by the Glam Glow mask, but was not willing to spend the $70 for a full size. I like this mask, it definitely clears out my pores and leaves my skin looking clear and bright. I don’t think I would buy the full size version, but would by this one again. I only use it on my T-zone, so I was able to get 10 uses out of it.

Lush Eau de Roma Water – This toner has become a skincare staple, I purchased this small bottle initially, but have since purchased the larger one. Such a great toner, leaves the skin feeling hydrated and refreshed.

Kiehl’s Skin Rescue – Another skincare staple, which I have already repurchased. It does wonders for the redness in my skin, and keeps my dehydrated skin happy. It’s on the pricer side, but using it once a day this bottle lasted me a good 8 months.

Clarins Blue Orchid Oil – Another skincare staple (are we starting to see a trend?). Love this oil, I have raved about it repeatedly. You can read the raves here and here. I’ve already purchased a replacement.

Avene Eau Thermale – Yes, it’s water in can :P Say what you will, but there’s just something so soothing about it, I spray it on right before using my face oil in the evening and it helps everything absorb nicely in my skin. So I will be repurchasing it, likely when it’s on sale.

Urban Decay B6 Vitamin Infused Complexion Prep Spray – Another mini I picked up from Sephora. I only got this about a month ago, and have used it non stop since. I use it as both a primer, and to set my makeup. It’s quickly become a favourite, and I will definitely be purchasing the full size.

Clarins Gentle Exfoliator – I mentioned this in my evening skincare routine (read it here), it’s a gentle chemical exfoliant that works wonders on my skin. I’ve already repurchased this.

Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant (mini) – Another mini from the sneaky checkout aisle at Sephora. During the week I use a Kiehl’s antiperspirant, but on the weekend I like to use something without the chemicals, to give my skin a break. I really liked this deodorant, but it dried out before I was able to use it all.

Lush Ultrabland – I actually mentioned this in my first empties post. It’s such a great and gentle makeup remover that I will forever be repurchasing.

Nuxe Rieve de Miel – I love this lip balm and will forever repurchase it. I use it at night before I go to bed, and it keeps my lips hydrated all night. It also lasts forever, I bought this 8 months ago, used it every night and just ran out. If you haven’t tried this lip balm, you definitely should. You can read my post about it here.

Maybelline The Falsies Mascara - This was a good mascara, but I’ve started to notice that even the waterproof Maybelline mascaras are starting to smudge on me and this one was no different. If I wasn’t careful, I ended up with serious racoon eyes by the end of the day. Won’t be repurchasing, to many other mascaras to try.

L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara – I love L’Oreal waterproof mascaras. They’re one of the few drugstore waterproof mascaras that don’t smudge on me. Of all their mascaras, the L’Oreal Telescopic is by far my favourite. It’s gives great definition and doesn’t clump. Will definitely purchase this again in the future.

There you have it! A peek at all the products that I’ve used up recently. Have you tried any of these products?
