March 2014 Favourites – Part 1 Makeup

March 2014 Favs

Hey Everyone,

It’s time for another favourites post! I have quite a few favourites to share, I’ve just been loving so many products this month it was hard to narrow it down to just a few, so I’ve broken it down into two posts. Today we will cover all my makeup favourites for the month of March, and on Wednesday we will do Skin Care.

Makeup Favourites

While some of these are recently release products, a lot of these have been out for a while, and I’m just late to the party on how awesome they are.

Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette - This is an absolutely gorgeous palette. It contains 5 matte shades and 1 slightly shimmery shade. It’s just the perfect palette for almost anything! The shadows are super pigmented and blendable, and I’ve used it every day since I got it. The Naked 2 shade (4th from the left) is just the perfect crease shade for me.

Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso – I’d heard a ton about this blush, and how much people loved it but hadn’t really given it much of a chance. Every time I saw it in the package, it looked super shimmery, which I hate. I’m so glad I finally decided to give it a shot! This is such a beautiful peach blush, and really makes my face light up. I like that you can build the intensity from barely their to quite bold. Also, the shimmer you see in the package translates to a slight highlight on the face.

Body Shop Honey Bronzer in 02 - This is definitely my favourite product this month! I’m seriously loving this bronzer! It’s the perfect shade for my fair skin tone. It adds warmth to my face without any shimmer ( I really dislike shimmer!). The colour is slightly lighter than my NARS Laguna bronzer, so I find it great for this time of year when I’m white as a ghost.

L’Oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions Waterproof Mascara – This is a rediscovery for me. I’m always on the hunt for a waterproof mascara that won’t smudge from my oily eyelids (only part of my face that’s actually oily!), and this one is the best. It just stays in place all day, doesn’t budge and washes off with my cleansing oil. It adds length and volume, without clumping. Will always repurchase.

BareMinerals Stroke of Light in 01 - This is billed as an under eye brightener, though I’ve been using it mostly as a highlighter. It does an amazing job, add a subtle highlight to my face without looking over the top or too glittery. I also tend to use it over my under eye concealer if I’m looking to add a little extra brightness.

Garnier Ultralift Transformer – The best base for no makeup makeup, love it so much I wrote a whole post about it here.

So there you have part 1 of my March 2014 Favourites. Check back on Wednesday for a look at the Skin Care products I’ve been loving!

Hey Everyone!

So this was not the post that I had originally planned for today, I had planned to share my new favourite eye palette (Too Faced Chocolate Bar…should be up next week), but I’ve been so impressed with the Garnier Ultra Lift Transformer Anti Aging Skin Corrector that I just couldn’t wait to share my thoughts on it. (That’s right, a skin corrector beat out a eye shadow palette that smells like chocolate! for today’s post…yes it’s that good!)

I picked up the Ultra Lift Transformer during a spend your points event at Shoppers Drug Mart, it was on sale and I just threw it in my basket. I didn’t really have any expectations, let alone be so impressed and to have this product become one of my holy grail products.

Garnier describes their Ultra Lift Transformer Anti Aging Skin Corrector (long name!) as a “daily transformation” and that is an incredibly accurate description. According to Garnier has an “auto-adjusting formula, with Pro-Retinol and micro-pigments, that works over time so that wrinkles look reduced, skin feels firmer, and younger-looking.”

It’s the perfect “your skin but better base”, it’s similar to a tinted moisturizer, but better; it’s like a tinted moisturizer with retinol and an amazing luminous primer had a baby. It’s that good, it’s actually become a holy grail skin base for me.

It comes out of the tube white, but the “auto adjusting formula” adjusts to your skin tone. I have quite fair skin and was concerned that it wouldn’t be light enough for my skin tone, however it works great. If you’re fair, I would definitely recommend swatching it first to make sure that the shade works with your skin tone.

Swatched

I apply it with my fingers, as I find that it not only gives the best finish, but ensures that the colour has been blended in. Because the colour self adjusts if you don’t blend it well, you can end up with darker streaks of product.

Once blended in, it gives my skin an amazing airbrushed look, and it minimizes my fine lines and pores. It gives a light coverage, similar to a tinted moisturizer, and the coverage is comparable to my DiorSkin BB Cream. I’ve actually started using it on a daily basis, and only use foundation when I need more coverage.

The only complaint I have about this product is that the Canadian version does not include sunscreen, which is key when using retinols, while the US version has an SPF 20.

I cannot say enough good things about the Ultra Lift Transformer, it’s become my go to base and I actually find that I need less concealer when I use it. If you’re looking for a nice light “your skin but better”, I recommend you try Ultra Lift, especially as we get into warmer weather, I think it would make the perfect everyday base.
