January 2014 Favourites

Jan2014Fav1

Hi Everyone,

It’s monthly favourites times, I always look forward to this type of blog post and youtube video because I love to see what other people have been loving during the month. These 6 products have been the ones that I’ve been loving this month. They’re a combination of old rediscovered products, new products, products I never thought I would like and products I’ve used solely to help keep my skin from going crazy during Polar Vortex 2014.

Fresh Sugar Advanced Lip Treatment – I got this lip balm for the first time late last fall as part of a Christmas Gift Set (always the best way to try out Fresh products), and have been loving it ever since. This has become my go-to daytime lip balm, because it’s in a tube and easy to reapply throughout the day. It’s definitely on the pricey side, but I find that it doesn’t dry out my lips and I don’t have to constantly reapply it.

L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream – This has been my favourite hand cream for a number of years. I have a full sized version at my office, another full size version at home, plus I carry the travel sized version in my purse. The formula is super hydrating, but absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave your hands all greasy. It’s perfect for winter in Canada.

La Roche-Posay Hydraphase Intense Riche – I bought this moisturizer in December, when my skin apparently decided that since I had turned 30, and it was cold out, it was time to become angry and dehydrated. I’m a huge fan of the whole Hydraphase line, which is designed for dehydrated skin and uses hyaluronic acid to help retain moisture. The Intense Riche lotion is ultra hydrating, but absorbs quickly and makes a great base for my moisturizer. Most importantly, it lasts all day and doesn’t make my skin feel angry and on fire going between freezing cold and the dry heat all day.

NARS Lip Gloss in Easy Lover – I picked this lip gloss up at the beginning of the month and featured it in my recent Sephora haul. Since I bought it, it has become my favourite lip gloss; it’s the only lip gloss I’ve worn all month. The colour looks very intense in the package, but it’s actually quite sheer berry pink toned when swatched.

Too Faced Bronzed & Poreless Poreless Perfecting Bronzer – I’ve owned this bronzer for a more than a year, I grabbed it on a whim at Sephora and promptly forgot about it. I had been using Nars Laguna as a bronzer, but found that I need something slightly warmer as I become quite pale in the winter. I found this in my collection and I’m very happy I did; I love it! I’ve read/seen a ton of people rave about Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer, but have never heard anything about this one. It’s a great bronzer to warm up the face, I find it’s a little warm to contour with, but it’s been great to use for adding colour and warmth to my winter white face.

NARS Blush in Orgasm – Everyone always raves about NARS blush in Orgasm, but when I swatched it I always found it looked clumpy and glittery. I can honestly say, I never thought I would be including it in a favourites post. I got this mini size of the NARS blush in a 500 pt Beauty Insiders set from Sephora, and thought I would try it out and prove my suspicions of how awful it was. Oh my goodness, was I ever wrong, this really is the perfect blush colour. It makes your checks look like they’ve naturally flushed, and the glitter adds a very subtle highlight, I’m in love. If you think you won’t like Orgasm, try it out, you might be surprised, I was.

So there you have it, my January Favourites. Are any of these products your favourite? Have you tried NARS Orgasm blush?

Thanks!

Meg

Nuxe Reve de Miel

Hey Everyone,

I thought I would continue the honey theme on the blog this week, and share with you my favourite night time lip balm.

RevedeMiel1

I originally stumbled upon Nuxe Reve de Miel at Shoppers Drug Mart when all Nuxe products were 5x the points (I’m a sucker for Shoppers Optimum Points) and as I’m quite the lip balm addict I thought I would give it a try. It was only after I bought did I realize it was such a hotly debated item in the world of beauty bloggers.

Reve de Miel is a very thick, matte, ultra-nourishing lip balm, which according to Nuxe “nourishes, repairs, soothes and protects the lips with Honey, Plant Oils, Shea Butter, Grapefruit Essence.” Nuxe also says that it was tested in “extreme cold conditions in Canada.” As a Canadian experiencing what could be described as extreme cold conditions (otherwise known as a polar vortex), I have to say it works well in these frigid conditions (hopefully one day it will warm up and I can blog about how I need a lighter moisturizer because of the heat…a girl can dream).

Because of how thick and matte this lip balm is, I find it best for use at night. Before I started using this lip balm, winter was pretty harsh on my lips and nighttime was the worst; because I wasn’t applying lip balm every couple hours, l found that by morning my lips were super dry and chapped. Now I apply it before I go to bed, and when wake up it’s still on my lips and they aren’t dry or chapped.

It’s this super thick consistency that either makes people love it or hate it; I personally love it, but I hadn’t read any reviews before I bought it. One thing to mention is that it tends to have fine grains in it, it’s like tiny pieces of crystallized honey. The grains don’t bother me, and I find they have the added benefit of exfoliating the lips, however I’ve read a number of reviews where people have complained about them. If you find that you pot is to grainy, you can actually pop it in the microwave and melt it a little.

Have you tried Nuxe Reve de Miel?

Thanks!
